Things to do in Delhi

On my RTW trip (See: I arrive in Delhi at 6:40am. OK, I will have to go through customs and immigration but even on a bad day that shouldn’t be more than an hour or so and then my next flight to Kuala Lumpur is not until 11pm the next day… that gives me the best part of 2 days in Delhi to enjoy.

So… what to do?

My initial thoughts were nothing much! I am doing this trip mostly without stopping to breath and Delhi is the first hotel stop on the trip so I thought chill and enjoy the hotel and the hotel pool. But I am visiting India for the first time and it would be sacrilege to just bum around the hotel when there is so much to see so I have decided to make the most of the stopover and get out and about.

On the day of my arrival then I have booked a day tour of New and Old Delhi.

Humayun’s Tomb – Delhi

Private Old and New Delhi Full-Day Combo Tour

Qutub Minar – Delhi

They will pick me up from the airport and then it is a 6-8 hour tour taking in the main sights of the city.

I get a tuk tuk ride too!

Tuk Tuk

The following day I will be taking a one-day tour from Delhi to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal… well, I couldn’t visit Delhi and be so close and not visit.

Agra is 100km south of Delhi and there were lots of day trips from Delhi, most of them by car/bus, but I have chosen doing it slightly differently. My tour starts at my hotel early (6.30am) when I am taken to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

Gatiman Express

There I will board the Gatiman Express to Agra. This is an express (no stops) from Delhi-Agra. They serve food on board and it is the fastest train in India! When I arrive at Agra I will be met by my tour guide. After the tour he returns me to the station to get the train back to Delhi where I am met to take me directly to the airport.

So, two long days touring in Delhi. I hope it works out as good as the reviews suggest it will!
